Hmmm...no comments for 8+ months...so, I guess I have to do EVERYTHING around here. LOL!!
The 2007 Shadowblaster sound (the plugged acoustic thing) is really coming along a million times better than I ever thought...but, I'm starting to miss the electric vibe, not to the point where I'm doing the "pine & whine" though.
I dig Ray's new "conga kit". He's going to revolutionize & uncompartmentalize the Latin percussion industry. Just totally make people change their idea of what Latin percussion can do...from sonic "flavoring" to tribal timekeeping. I'm sure somebody's thought of it before, but Ray's DOING IT!!!! You know what they say about "actions" & "words", right?
Randy's bass playing just gets better & better...and how he can sing and still play those bass lines just boggles my mind. Randy's ideas on song arrangements have elevated some of our seemingly mundane songs to "tour de force" status.
Scott's growth from being "the harp player who sings" to being "the singer who plays harp" is amazing. Plus, his penchant for finding just the right song to fit our ever-evolving concept is phenomenal. How he can remember all those Dylan & Waits lyrics (as well as his ability to string together verse after verse of his OWN lyrics) is unbelievable.
Ahhh...and last and definitely "the least", there's Steve...what the hell are you doing? Learn the lyrics correctly, REMEMBER the lyrics correctly...and on top of that...play the right notes in the right keys. And, focus on the job at hand, stop drifting off into Tangentland. Plus, do you REALLY call that "stage presence", open your damned eyes!! {sigh} Do I have to take over and do it myself? Most bands live & die by their rhythm section, but with this band, the rhythm section is so good, it just magnifies the fact that the guitarist is really the "Weakest Link". But, I can't think of any other guitarist who FITS the Shadowblaster sound, as Steve does. So, if THEY can put up with him, I guess I'll have to, as well.
